Ethical hackers help expose the vulnerabilities in the software to help a business secure their software before an illegal hacker discovers them.

Being a software developer, I wanted to make my software highly secure. So I started learning about ethical hacking. In this story, I will introduce you to ethical hacking.

What is hacking?

Hacking is being able to get access to a system that you are not supposed to have access to. For example, gaining unauthorized access to a remote computer is hacking that computer, logging into accounts you are not supposed to have access to means that you have hacked that account.

Types of Hacker

There are 3 types of hackers black-hat hacker, white-hat hacker, and grey-hat hacker.

Black-hat Hacker

These are the bad people, they hack into systems illegally in order to steal money, information, do harm to your systems, or achieve their own illegal goals.

White-hat Hacker

These are good people, they hack into your system with your permission in order to identify the vulnerabilities and test security in your system.
Today, big companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter, and others spend millions on white-hat hacking to remove the vulnerabilities in their system. Bug bounty programs are created to compensate the hacker for reporting security issues.

Grey-hat Hacker

These are a mix of black and white hats. They hack into your system without permission to test security but they do not harm your system. They report the vulnerabilities to the business owner. This is still illegal as they do not have permission to do so.
